Team Hoyt Denver
Team Hoyt Denver
We have a wonderful opportunity for you to be a part of a new organization in Denver called Team Hoyt Denver. Team Hoyt Denver is bringing the opportunity for people with disabilities to compete in running races pushed by athlete running partners. They were inspired by Dick Hoyt, who pushed his quadriplegic son Rick in over 1,100 race events including 72 marathons, 95 half marathons, 255 triathlons and countless other races. They are most widely known for their participation in the Boston Marathon 32 times.
Team Hoyt Denver is launching at the Colfax race weekend May 17-18.
Team Hoyt Denver’s mission is to continue the legacy of Dick and Rick Hoyt by championing inclusion in running and triathlon races for people of all abilities. They pair runner athletes with rider athletes who are pushed to the finish line in specialized racing wheelchairs, bringing the thrill of racing to athletes with disabilities and ensuring that no one is left on the sidelines. You can read more about them here www.teamhoytdenver.com
They currently have 8 duos (runner and rider pairings) participating in the 5k race on Saturday, May 17 at 9:00am and 3 duos participating in the half marathon on Sunday, May 18 at 6:30am. They have more racing wheelchairs available and would love to have more athletes with disabilities participate. There are runners ready to push athletes with disabilities in these wheelchairs! It's a great opportunity to try out a racing wheelchair, meet the team and see what it's like to be a part of Team Hoyt Denver. If you are interested please email Team Hoyt Denver.
